We found ourselves with a free weekend and ended up, last minute, going to Maine last weekend. We stayed right outside of Camden and it was so beautiful up in that area. I had never really been much further north than Portland (besides a brief trip to Cutler, Maine last summer) and I'm glad we decided to go that far. The foliage was much more vibrant than it is here in Boston and everything was so cozy and fall-like.
We left on Friday night after work and it was about a four hour trip. We got to catch up on all the latest episodes of Dinner Party Download and Modern Love. Saturday we explored Camden and the surrounding area and then, of course, ended the day at a cozy pub and then ate some of the most delicious asian food at Long Grain. I have found that the two best asian dishes I have had have been in Maine (Anju, anyone?)
Sunday I woke up and got Dean up for the sunrise. We bundled up and trekked down to the ocean through the backyard of the hotel we were staying in. It was definitely worth it. I love that Maine is one of the first places in the country to see the sun rise.
After breakfast, we went to the top of Mount Battie to see some of the foliage before we left. I know it's cliche, but fall always reminds me how grateful I am to have grown up in New England and what a special place it is.
