Intimate Portland, Maine Elopement

In late spring, Ashley + John had a sweet and intimate Portland, Maine elopement at the Blind Tiger in the West End. They originally planned to have a big celebration for their wedding but, like many couples in the last two years, COVID derailed those plans. So instead, they had two of their best friends there to help them celebrate. And, of course, they had their family join via Zoom to watch them tie the knot.

One of the best things about elopements is how relaxed the day is. Ashley + John’s day was no different. I spent a bit of time with Ashley as she got into her dress after having already had her hair done en suite by Hair That Moves. I then headed down to get some photos of John relaxing with their officiant before the ceremony. The day was so relaxed that I found Ashley kicked back, enjoying quiet time right before the ceremony. I love to see it.

Blind Tiger was the perfect spot for an elopement. They have a beautiful first floor that features two living rooms with fireplaces, a dining room, and a bar area. It feels like a very casual, comfortable, well-decorated home. There are several guest rooms upstairs, each minimally and thoughtfully decorated, and a game room in the basement.

Ashley + John used the dining area for their ceremony, clearing the room of all furniture and decorating the mantel very minimally to serve as their backdrop. After the ceremony, they used the other side of the room for their first dance in front of some lovely bay windows. We then headed into the bar area to celebrate with a cocktail and sign their marriage license. Blind Tiger made for the perfect location for the Portland, Maine elopement.

Afterward, we headed outside to get couples portraits around Portland. The Blind Tiger is in the West End, a neighborhood full of beautiful architecture. We went from the West End to downtown to the Eastern Promenade for their couples photos. One of my favorite experiences is meandering through downtown with couples fully decked out in their wedding attire and seeing everyone congratulate them and cheer for them. It’s so heartwarming.

Ashley + John are celebrating their first anniversary soon at Rí Rá in downtown Portland, and I can’t wait to celebrate with them as they throw the big party they were hoping for with all their friends + family in person.
