I met Emily + Anthony many years ago when we all lived in Boston. A few years later, they decided to get married at O’Maine Studios in Portland, Maine. Anthony is from Maine, so it’s a special place for them. They asked me to photograph, and I was honored to be part of their day. O’Maine Studios is one of my favorite venues to photograph. It’s a mixed-purpose venue used as a movie studio and a wedding venue. So, it’s essentially a blank slate, and it’s so fun to see how couples choose to personalize it for their wedding. They worked with Pinch Me Planning to help coordinate the day and make their vision become a reality. They decked out the space in greenery and sunflowers (her favorite) from Yellow Twist for a natural, romantic, and bohemian feel.
We started the day at their Airbnb, where Emily and her bridesmaids got ready. The guys got ready down the road at the Marriott. It was a chilly, overcast late April day, but we still went outside to take some photos in Longfellow Square. After an indoor ceremony, cocktail hour kicked off, and we headed into downtown Portland to take couples photos. We stopped in at Blyth + Burrows for a celebratory cocktail. I love that they built in this moment to sit and enjoy themselves as a married couple for the first time. It’s a great idea, and something I often suggest to my couples now. Also, hearing the bar erupt into a cheer for Emily + Anthony was one of my favorite moments of the day.
Dinner was catered by Fire + Co and felt like one big dinner party. Those are my favorite types of dinners at weddings. With long tables set up, everyone toasted throughout the heartfelt toasts. Their day was full of love, which wasn’t surprising; they are two of the kindest people I know.
